he coronagraph subsystem effects the removal of as much of the diffracted portion of central star’s light from the field of view as possible using only optical techniques, such as diffraction or interference along with careful use of optical stops or masks.
The American Museum of Natural History has a functioning testbed system to characterize the performance of the GPI coronagraph using different types of materials and techniques.
GPI: A scientific partnership between institutions from the U.S.A., U.K., Canada, Australia, Argentina, Brazil and Chile.
